Used Toyota 4Runner Performance Overview

For most model years, the standard engine is a 4.0 liter V6, and it is good for 270hp and 278 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission will send power to the rear wheels. However, four-wheel drive is common as well, especially if a Trail or TRD Pro trim is available. If equipped with 4WD, the SR5 and Limited trims get two unique systems. The former comes with a part-time system, while the latter gets a full-time variant. Low-range gearing is standard for both.

The aforementioned Trail and TRD Pro variants get the part-time system, and due to their 4WD exclusivity, they usually come with crawl control as well. This essentially acts like cruise control for low speeds when you’re traversing treacherous terrain. Depending on the drivetrain and the model year, EPA fuel economy estimates usually fall in the range of 17/22 miles per gallon, city/highway.

Keep yourself and all of your passengers safe in the highly protected Toyota 4Runner.

Used Toyota 4Runner Safety Features

In this Used Toyota 4Runner Overview, you will find that safety features are prominent on virtually every version of this SUV. Typical highlights include a rearview camera, a tire pressure monitoring system, airbags, traction and stability control, and rear door child safety locks.

Among the other safety items commonly found on a 4Runner are antilock brakes, emergency braking assist, child seat anchors, daytime running lights, and an antitheft alarm system. If you choose a modern-era 4WD version, then you will probably get the automaker’s A-Trac system. This works by redistributing the torque to the wheels that have the most traction in off-road situations.

Trim Features of the Toyota 4Runner

If available, upper trims should come with front and rear parking sensors and the Safety Connect telematics system. Highlights for the latter include emergency roadside assistance, stolen vehicle location, and automatic notification if you are in the unfortunate event of a collision.

Regarding trim levels, many were manufactured over the years, and for the most part the base trim was dubbed the SR5. Common highlights include fog lights, heated mirrors, a power lift gate window, and keyless entry. Most will also come with cruise control, air conditioning, roof rails, and rear seats that conveniently recline.

Off-Roading in a Used Toyota 4Runner

In this Used Toyota 4Runner Overview, you will also find that a good many off-road features come standard on most SR5 models. Typical highlights include skid plates, mud guards, hill descent control, and a tow hitch. Hill start assist is usually standard as well. Tech features don’t disappoint, as most come with Bluetooth® and an eight-speaker audio system with, voice controls, a CD player, HD and satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack, and an iPod/USB audio interface.

If the original owner went with the optional Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, chances are you’ll get a handy automatic feature that increases traction in rock-heavy off-road situations. Specifically, the stabilizer bars are disconnected in said scenarios. TRD Pro trims are similar, but they further add to the off-road features by providing special shocks and upgraded suspension elements.

Premium Features Available with the Toyota 4Runner

If an SR5 Premium trim is available, you stand to benefit from just about all of the above features plus extras such as additional power settings for the front seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, upgraded upholstery, and a sunroof. The Trail variant most often adds a hood scoop, extra chrome design elements, and a locking rear differential.

Finally, there’s the Limited trim. It comes with automatic headlights, ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, front and rear parking sensors, larger wheels, and dual zone automatic climate control. Specific features and trims may vary depending on inventory availability at the time of your visit.
