2016 Toyota Tundra Engines


Two engines are available with the Tundra, both of the V8 variety. The first is a 4.6L that is rated at 310 hp and 327 lb-ft of torque. EPA fuel economy estimates are in the 16 mpg range, city/highway. Figures may vary depending on whether you opt for rear- or four-wheel drive, which is a choice across the lineup. Towing capacity tops out at 6,800 pounds. You can go with a 5.7L engine if you wish, and it provides 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. Of note is that this V8 comes standard with the Limited, Platinum, 1794 and TRD Pro trims. Fuel economy is similar at 15 mpg combined. With this engine, a tow package is standard, and depending on the body style you select, towing capacity rates as high as 10,500 pounds. All versions of the 2016 Toyota Tundra come with advanced safety features such as antilock brakes, stability and traction control, trailer sway control, a rearview camera, front knee airbags, front side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags. Upper trims like the Platinum and 1794 get a blind-spot warning system, rear cross-traffic alert and parking sensors. Other features of note for the entire Tundra lineup include rear height-adjustable headrests, wheel locks, a glass breakage sensor, a spare tire lock, daytime running lights and emergency braking assist.

Body Styles of the 2016 Toyota Tundra in Edmonds


Buyers of the Tundra can select from either regular, double or CrewMax body styles. The SR trim is available in regular and double configurations, and it comes with full power accessories, keyless entry, heated mirrors, a windshield wiper de-icer, a damped tailgate, air conditioning, cruise control, a rearview camera, 40/20/40 bench seat and cloth upholstery. Tech features of the SR5 include Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and a six-speaker sound system with a 6.1-inch touchscreen interface, a CD player, an auxiliary audio jack, a USB port and a media player interface.

SR5 versions of the 2016 Toyota Tundra are available in double and CrewMax guise, and standard feature for both body styles include fog lights, exterior chrome trim, variable intermittent windshield wipers and a special tech interface that adds a 7-inch touchscreen, HD and satellite radios, traffic information and a navigation app. Specifying the CrewMax variant adds a power opening rear window and an overhead console. Optional is the SR5 Upgrade Package that nets front bucket seats with a power height-adjustable driver seat and lumbar adjustment, a center console, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The TRD Pro trim gets you the options listed above as standard. It also provides you with trim-specific design cues, black 18-inch alloy wheels, off-road tires and an off-road suspension that tacks on Bilstein shock absorbers and four movable bed tie-down cleats, Also standard are an eight-way power driver seat, a four-way power passenger seat, leather upholstery with TRD badging, an upgraded 7-inch touchscreen, a navigation system and additional speakers for the sound system. Limited models are double and CrewMax only, and they come with automatic headlights, 20-inch alloy wheels, the tie-down cleats, automatic dual-zone climate control and an eight-way power driver seat. CrewMax buyers can add a sunroof. Platinum trims are equipped with LED running lights, power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors, the sunroof and heated and ventilated power front seats. The 1794 trim provides the same equipment, but gets its own special badging and design cues that nod to the Texas factory in which it is built.
